Weaving Across Borders

We are delighted to be hosting this collection of beautiful handcrafted objects celebrating the rich heritage of woven objects curated by the Northumbria Basketry Group and The Scottish Basket Makers Circle.

Around 80 pieces of work by 30 different makers will be displayed in the Sill’s Learning Rooms and around the entrance area. Most of these pieces will be available for purchase.

Members of the Northumbria Basketry Group will be on hand most days to give further information about items and about what the group does and how to get involved.

Once you have seen all these beautiful objects made chiefly from willow, you might just fancy a go at getting creative with this incredibly sustainable material yourself. So to accompany the exhibition we have workshops for all ages:

Sunday 21st July: Basketry through Time. Bring along your mystery basket and Charlotte Boxall of Northumbria Basketry Group will help you discover its history. Free of charge.

Tuesday 23rd July & 24th July: 2-day Basket Making Course.
