Helping your school

The Sill learning staff are trained to deliver Arts Award at Discover, Explore, Bronze and Silver levels. The landscapes of Northumberland provide endless inspiration for all art forms, from wildlife photography to landscape paintings to poetry inspired by the spectacular scenery. We can be guided by your requirements, and assist in facilitating visits to the perfect locations for your groups to be inspired to learn more, and create their art works.

Our standard package includes two visits from National Park staff into school – firstly, to introduce Arts Award and provide activities to inspire the students to get creative, and secondly, to attend your sharing event, where students share their work in order to gain their award.

The advanced package includes a third visit, in which staff facilitate arts activities out on site in the National Park, inspired by the natural world, which will contribute towards the award. With both packages, students will receive an Arts Log Book, to record their Arts Award journeys.

Our most recent Arts Award work was featured on the Arts Award blog – click here to find out all about how children were inspired by the natural world to be creative.

John Muir Award

The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It supports people to connect with, enjoy and care for nature, landscape, and the natural environment. Participants work towards completing four challenges – Discover, Explore, Conserve, and Share. As an award provider, The Sill learning team can arrange visits and facilitate meetings with experts, helping to guide participants through the four stages and foster a love of the Northumberland landscape.
