Told in Gold

“Once upon a time, words began to vanish from the language of children. They disappeared so quietly that at first no-one noticed. Fading away like water on a stone. The words were becoming lost, no longer vivid in children’s voices no longer alive in their stories.”

So begins Jackie Morris and Robert Macfarlane’s award winning book The Lost Words. The book responds to the saddening fact that there are many words of nature that are so depleted from children’s vocabularies that they are no longer entries in the children’s dictionary – words like conker, magpie, heron and dandelion.

On Saturday 28 March and Sunday 29 March, Undersong Productions will bring their outdoor theatre performance, complete with Goldfinch Nest theatre to the grounds of The Sill.

Performance

This beautiful book has been adapted and directed by theatre maker and voice coach, Collette Murray, to an outdoor immersive theatre performance for all ages. Led by a charm of Britain’s wild birds, the story of The Lost Words unfolds inside the nest theatre and concludes with a gentle stroll through the woods to seek, find and speak The Lost Words.

The Sill is the perfect environment for The Lost Words: Told in Gold. The performances will run alongside The Lost Words Exhibition.

Come down, become a Goldfinch and join us in our nest!
