New Northumberland National Park website helps visitors connect ‘on the go’

Northumberland National Park Authority is helping visitors access all the information they need about the Park, at the touch of a button.

The Authority has announced the launch of its new ‘visitor-friendly’ website to showcase the stunning National Park as a destination and highlight all the many incredible places people can visit as well as the variety of activities they can do whilst they’re there.

The new website places visitor experience at the heart and is compatible with today’s modern tablet and smartphone technology, offering people access to everything they need whilst ‘on the go’. It reflects the increased demand by visitors to use their mobile devices to access visitor information whilst on holiday, with 22 per cent of people surveyed in the Northumberland National Park Visitor Survey 2014 indicating that this is important to them, compared to just six per cent in 2011.

The site will act as a hub for information, linking to all the essential tools visitors are looking for, including where they can go; how they can plan a trip and what they can get involved in whilst they’re visiting – such as the wealth of events and activities offered through the National Park and its partners. From the Cheviot Hills to Coquetdale; Hadrian’s Wall country to Redesdale, the site connects the many breath-taking locations across the Park in a simple, easy-to-use format which will open the door to discovery for visitors.

Duncan Wise, Visitor Development Manager at Northumberland National Park, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of our brand new website, which places the needs of our visitors at the forefront.

“The website offers a range of new features, from weather updates to our ‘Your Park’ facility which is personalised to visitor requirements. We’ve listened to what our visitors want and created a fast, responsive website, with interactive mapping and a new build-your-own itinerary feature.

“It’s hugely important to Northumberland National Park to offer new and existing visitors everything that they need to ensure they receive the best possible experience of the Park from the moment they first encounter it.

“With broadband services across Northumberland improving rapidly, through the new website we will be able to better service the evolving needs of our visitors who can easily access it at the touch of a button – wherever they are and whatever platform they’re using.”

The new website has also been designed to integrate more effectively with Northumberland National Park’s social media sites, including its popular Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram feeds. Visitors will be able to discover the latest on all the exciting projects that the National Park is currently undertaking, including the flagship Sill project, a national landscape discovery centre in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country, which will help people learn about and explore Northumberland’s finest natural landscapes.

Northumberland National Park Authority will also be welcoming a new member of staff to the web and social media team in April 2015, to support the roll out of the Park’s digital communication channels.
